Never a boring day at student teaching! My area has been getting some crazy rainstorms lately that have caused some serious flooding that is unusual for us! So much rain I haven't seen the sun since Saturday, hard to believe but it's true! I think it's that darn tropical storm Lee that is dumping all this rain on poor Pennsylvania. We were notified about 10am-ish that we would be dismissing our elementary students at 1:15p because of the road conditions. My fourth day student teaching and we already have an early dismissal, in September no less! It was great because I was able to observe how a teacher deals with the unexpected, change of plans, crazy kids kinda day. After I got home, things are only getting worse in terms of the weather and road conditions. I'm so happy our district decided to dismiss our students early because there were two districts not so far from us who didn't and their students were kept there after school late into the evening until police allowed for evacuation of the students. The pictures of the flooding are insane! I've never seen anything like it in this area. The saddest thing about this however, Hershey (which is 10 minutes from me) is completely under...the scariest/most disappointing is that Zoo America (Hershey Park's Zoo) neglected to evacuate the animals before the flooding and I've seen a picture of two bison that are in flood waters up to their noses...reports said the zoo had to euthanize two bison, but they look as though they are drowning!
well, as for right now, we have a two-hour delay tomorrow morning...but who knows maybe we will be using our first snow day! Imagine that, a snow day in septemeber...
I tried to do some of the homework that I have for seminar....but I'm wayyyy to distracted tonight and can't concentrate...maybe I'll just read.
Night!

The never ending Tuesdays
You know how everyone, everywhere despises Mondays? That used to be me, but nope not anymore, I found a day that I hate even more than Monday.....TUESDAY! why you ask? well, let's see, i wake up at 6:45am, go to school, teach almost all day, leave at 2:30pm, drive to Philadelphia (about 2 1/2 hours with traffic...had to stop and get an iced coffee, I was falling asleep!), attend my weekly night senior seminar class from 5:30-8pm, drive home (usually a good 2 hours), eat dinner and try to finish up anything else (like this) before its bedtime. I should be asleep right now as tired as my body is but I also had an iced coffee before I left Philadelphia so I'm wide awake...but I'm sure once my head hits the pillow, I'll be out.
At school today we had our first indoor recess, how exciting! The cuties loved it and everyone wanted me to play with them. I also think I have my first clinger...yes like stage 5 but cute, not creepy. This little cutie won't leave my side and always wants one-on-one attention and help. Right now since I'm only observing and helping out, this is easy to do...won't be so easy when I'm teaching whole group instruction.
My seminar class is packed full of work so I will be very busy the next seven weeks doing assignments and working on my portfolio for the senior performance assessment that is right before Thanksgiving (which will be here before I know it, crazy right?)
I plan to start teaching soon and Thursday is back to school night :) exciting things are coming, i can feel them!
OH yea, did i mention i have to RETAKE one of my praxis 2 tests because i took the wrong one. ETS notified me that i took/passed the elementary ed-content knowledge when i really needed to take the fundamental content knowledge. RATS! of coarse something like this would happen to me. The only really nice part is that they are making the adjustment for me and allowing me to take the other test at no charge :) yayayya. oh yea that reminds me...I also need to take the early childhood praxis.
Needless to say, now until Thanksgiving will be very busy for me....
as for you social life....see you in December

first fridayyyy!
my very first friday! the cuties weren't as excited or distracted about our long labor day weekend as I expected...maybe they don't realize we don't have school on Monday yet! IDK! ...I did a few more "teacher tasks" to help out and pretty much observed the entire day again...just trying to get into the daily flow of the classroom routine.
There isn't much to say since i'm not doing very much :) buttt...one cutie (who has more anxiety issues than anyone, child or adult, that i;ve ever seen) said this to me today... "Ms. Maguire, you made me nervous" [I asked him why I made him nervous] "because i was nervous you were going to be mean, but youre really nice" :) :) :) sucha sweetie...but he said it in all seriousness then just walked away to go back to doing his science experiment. Well, I'm glad the cuties think i'm nice :)
have a great long weeeekend...first faculty meeting on tuesday..yippee ( probs the ONLY time i will EVER say that EVER AGAIN!)

first day jitters!
I can't believeeeee that my first day went so fast! It was terrific! Back to the classroom, back to eating wonderful school lunches (because I was so busy in the morning, I forgot to pack a lunch) but hey, it wasn't so bad. I met so many new people, whose names I don't remember but should. I saw two pregnant teachers so maybe i'll be able to take a long term sub job in January ;) wishful thinking right?
I have 18 little cuties and only 3 or 4 seem to have behavior problems which is a breeze compared to the little devils I had to deal with in Philadelphia! This should be a PIECE OF CAKE (hopefully, I mean it's still only their fourth day of school). My day was fillllllled with compliments. "I love your hair Ms. Maguire" "Ms. Maguire, you dress cute" "You're so pretty and nice"...man, if I'm ever having a bad day, these little cuties sure do know how to compliment and cheer up my day! All of them definitely overfilled my bucket today!
Another plus, there is a Turkey Hill right on the way to my school in the morning...a perfect pit stop for my cant-live-without iced coffee! My morning are going to be wonderful!
Since it was my first day, I didn't do much but observe and try and learn all my cuties' names but I didn't expect much more...I'm just so anxious to get teaching lessons! YAY!
Tomorrow is probably the first Friday that I'm not hoping and waiting for...I don't want my week to be over so soon! But, needless to say with doing student teaching and my part-time job today, I'm finally home and EXHAUSTED....this will probably be the earliest I'll be going to bed in oh, about foreveeeer.

school year's eve!
I've been a secret, invisible follower of many teacher blogs ever since I started my education journey four not so long years ago. Being inspired by almost every s.i.n.g.l.e one that I crossed, I knew I had to finally start one of my own, once my student teaching started. I've spent the past years doing some practicums in different classrooms but nothing as stressful as wonderful as working a full time teaching job for free while paying Temple 7,000 dollars to do it getting an actually whole day, student teaching experience. I plan to use this blog to write about my experience so over the course of the semester, I'll be able to see how much I've grown and all my success, failures, and funny moments with these crazy 2nd graders!
So this is it, its the night before my first day. My class has already been in school since Monday...so I'll be introduced to my kids on their fourth day of school. I've met my teacher already and she seems really wonderful which is promising since, not all student teachers are that lucky.
I hope I get better at this blogging thing as time goes on as well, maybe I should have started early so my blog could have been cute (like pretty much EVERYONE elses)...Its so boring..and i HATE...HATE BORING....so I'm going to spend the rest of the night searching for ways to make my blog cute and pick our my "first day of student teaching" outfit for tomorrow :)
oh, and if anyone has any tips how to change the font to the cute fonts like the ones from kevinandamanda...let me know :) please...please :)
